A Teaching Assistant (TA) or Learning Support Assistant (LSA) has a very important role in any classroom. They are involved with supporting the teacher in all aspects of their role.

This can include helping to prepare resources for a lesson and setting out and clearing away activities. They may be asked to take small groups outside the class and work with them on specific areas such as literacy or numeracy. This can include children with special educational needs (SEN).

They can also be asked to help in reading, school trips, undertaking planning and record keeping.

Qualifications in Childcare and Education and Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools would be appropriate to secure a Learning Support Role. Although there are many Teaching Assistant qualifications out there, it is not always necessary to have a formal qualification. Experience is invaluable when securing a TA position.
