Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Hours: Term time only, 8:30am–4:00pm
Setting: Primary & Secondary (SEND – Autism)

Location: L25

Hourly pay: £14.50 per hour

Contract Type: Temp to Perm

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced HLTA to support primary and secondary‑age students with autism. You will work alongside the class teacher to deliver learning activities, prepare resources, and provide high‑quality support across education, behaviour, communication and personal care.

What You’ll Do

  • Support teaching and learning across the curriculum
  • Prepare resources and maintain a safe, organised classroom
  • Provide feedback on student progress
  • Support behaviour plans, therapy sessions and structured play
  • Assist with personal care, feeding, toileting and First Aid
  • Promote communication, independence and emotional wellbeing
  • Supervise students during breaks, off‑site activities and transport
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting children with SEND (ASD desirable)
  • Confident working with both primary and secondary‑age pupils
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Calm, resilient and able to work in a busy, challenging environment
  • Comfortable supporting behaviour, emotional needs and personal care
  • Team‑focused and committed to safeguarding

Desirable

  • Knowledge of care plans
  • Experience with AAC or alternative communication method
