Job Title: Team Leader Residential Support Worker
Location: Stockbridge Village, Knowsley, L28
Age Group: Children and Young People (7-17 Years Old)
Reports To: Home Manager
Pay Rate: £14.50 to £15.50 per hour (Depending on Experience)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Team Leader Residential Support Worker to join our 2-bed Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) home. This role is ideal for an individual with 2-3 years of experience in residential childcare who is passionate about supporting children and young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs. As a Team Leader, you will oversee a small team of support workers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality care and positive outcomes for the children in our care. You will lead by example, providing guidance and support to your team while fostering a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Supervision:
- Lead and supervise a team of Residential Support Workers, ensuring they provide excellent care and support to children with EBD.
- Be a positive role model, promoting good practice and professional behaviour within the team.
- Provide regular supervision, coaching, and training opportunities for staff members to ensure their ongoing development.
- Ensure compliance with the home's policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations and Ofsted requirements.
- Child-Centered Care:
- Build strong, positive, and trusting relationships with the children and young people, promoting their emotional, social, and educational development.
- Support and empower children to achieve their goals, encouraging independence and positive behaviour.
- Ensure the children's individual care plans are followed and reviewed regularly, adapting support strategies to meet their evolving needs.
- Provide practical and emotional support to children in day-to-day activities, including personal care, education, recreation, and socialization.
- Safeguarding & Health & Safety:
- Ensure the safeguarding and well-being of all children in the home, following safeguarding procedures and raising concerns where necessary.
- Promote a safe and secure living environment, ensuring health and safety policies are adhered to.
- Respond to incidents, challenging behaviours, and emergencies as required, using de-escalation techniques and following the home's behaviour management plan.
- Administrative Duties:
- Ensure that accurate records are maintained for all children, including daily logs, care plans, incident reports, and progress notes.
- Assist with the preparation for and participation in regular review meetings, providing updates on children's progress and development.
- Contribute to the preparation for Ofsted inspections and any other regulatory audits.
- Team Collaboration & Communication:
- Work closely with other professionals (e.g., social workers, therapists, schools) to ensure a holistic approach to the children’s care and development.
- Participate in team meetings, handovers, and training sessions, contributing to the ongoing improvement of the service.
- Ensure open and effective communication within the team, fostering a positive and supportive work culture.
Key Requirements:
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience working in a residential childcare setting, particularly with children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD).
- Experience in supervising or leading a team is highly desirable.
- Qualifications:
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) is essential.
- A Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards) is desirable.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management techniques, and child protection procedures.
- Ability to develop and implement care plans and risk assessments tailored to individual children’s needs.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to lead a team effectively and manage conflicting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including Children’s Homes Regulations and Ofsted standards.
- Personal Qualities:
- Compassionate, patient, and resilient with a strong commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable children.
- Able to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins as required.
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour and remain calm under pressure.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
